The 2007 Marcel Pagnol Prize was awarded on June 6th to Didier Van Cauwelaert for “Le père adopté”, Editions Albin Michel, during a special evening in Fouquet’s “Raimu” lounge where Pagnol used to meet with his friends.
To celebrate the event, Frédéric Pagnol, Marcel and Jacqueline Pagnol’s son, was surrounded with Nicolas, Louis-Laurent and little Maxime, the writer’s grandsons and great grandson, respectively. Didier Van Cauwelaert expressed his gratefulness and emotion, recalling his previously missed opportunities to collaborate with Marcel Pagnol: first the Souvenirs d'enfance (“Memories of Childhood”) adaptation he had not be able to direct at the time, second Marius and Fanny libretto by Vladimir Cosma (the first night is planned for September 4th at Opéra de Marseille)… The reunion was crowned by Marcel Pagnol Prize…
The world of the press and of publishing (Bernard de Fallois, Marcel Pagnol’s emblematic publisher, as well as Michel Lafon…) rubbed shoulders with the world of cinema (Vladimir Cosma, Claude Pinoteau…) and literature (Michel Déon, Daniel Picouly, Guy Gofette…) or with friends of the “great Pagnol family”, including Mme Constantin, Fernandel’s daughter.
A wonderful and friendly evening, in the image of Marcel Pagnol.
