Marcel Pagnol discovered the Sarthe region thanks to his friend Boulay, a manufacturer and producer.
Very quickly, he decided to shoot there his first movie as a film director: “Le Gendre de Monsieur Poirier” (“Mr. Poirier’s Son-in-Law”).
Later on, he purchased the Ignières mill where he retired at the end of war with Jacqueline, René, his brother, and some friends.
This is where they were to see American troops coming from Normandy, a few days following June 6th, 1944.
